Claire Blake is an Irish costume designer based in Vienna, Austria. Trained in Performance Costume Design at Edinburgh College of Art, she completed a Masters in Performance Design and Practice at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, London concentrating on experimental music theatre work. She relocated to Vienna in 2013 to further her career within the diverse operatic and theatre world found there.
Her costume work has been toured internationally, and can be seen regularly at Dschungel Wien, Wiener Konzerthaus, and most recently at Bronski & Grünberg. She has also assisted with theatre houses and companies such as Theater an der Wien, Wiener Kammeroper, Volkstheater, Opera Graz, Sirene Operntheater and die Wiener Taschenoper.
Claire Blake has written and directed a number of shows, with an emphasis on experimental music theatre, and has participated in festivals such as the Tête à Tête Opera Festival, Prague Quadrennial and Hack the Barbican. Her directorial work has been shown in London, Vienna and Athens.
She continues to work in opera & theatre, and runs a side-line online shop to sell hand-embroidered jewellery.
