Claire Blake is an Irish costume designer based in Vienna, Austria. Trained in Performance Costume Design at Edinburgh College of Art, she completed a Masters in Performance Design and Practice at Central Saint Martins, London.

Between 2013 and 2022 she designed costumes & props primarily for music and dance theatre for children. Her work has been seen at Dschungel Wien, Wiener Konzerthaus, Szene Bunte Wähne, Vienna Musikverein, Mo.ë and Bronski & Grünberg, amongst others as well as internationally toured.

In others areas of costume engagement, she has worked for Opera Graz, Hollywood in Vienna, Theater an der Wien, the Salzburger Festspiele, Wiener Kammeroper, Volkstheater, Theater Nestroyhof Hamakom, Sirene Operntheater and the Wiener Taschenoper.

Blake has written, produced and directed a handful of experimental music theatre productions, and has participated in festivals such as the Tête à Tête Opera Festival, Prague Quadrennial and Hack the Barbican. Her directorial work has been shown in London, Vienna and Athens.

She currently works in the costume department of the Vienna Volksoper as coordinator for new productions, and continues to create printed and embroidered textiles as her ongoing art practice.
